As many of you are aware, Governor Holcomb announced Indiana's mask mandate will end April 6. I want to make everyone aware that according to Governor Holcomb’s declaration, face coverings will remain mandatory in all state buildings, all vaccination and COVID-19 testing sites, and in K-12 schools. In other words students, staff, and individuals attending school functions will still be required to wear a mask in schools after April 6. With today’s shift in Randolph County to Yellow Status it is important to do all we can to slow the spread so that our end of the school year events are as close to traditional as we can make them. During the 2020 Christmas season when Ardagh employees of Local 14, Local 65, & Local 106T are paid to stay home with their families. Many of them volunteered to work to keep production of this essential company going during a global pandemic. The employees on the Ardagh team worked a total of 2,079 shifts which is 16,632 hours they could have been home relaxing with their families. That is more than double the number of shifts of any other Ardagh Group plant in North America. Because the Ardagh employees in this area stepped up, Ardagh was able to make a donation of $25,987.50 to buy supplies, shoes, coats, clothing, and food for students in need at Randolph Central Schools. Mr. Abraham is pictured receiving the donation on behalf of The Board of School Trustees and all our students. Thank you Ardagh and Local 14, Local 65, & Local 106T! Our February drive-up food pantry will begin at Deerfield immediately following dismissal. Families of our students can just drive in and park along the curb in front of the main entrance to pick up some free groceries. We'll be here until 4:30 or until the food runs out.

On Friday, February 5th, Deerfield students will be issued brand-new Chromebooks to replace their previously assigned devices. It is imperative that students bring their assigned Chromebook, case, and charger (if you choose) to school on Friday. Each student will return his or her current Chromebook and protective case and be given a new Chromebook and case. Each student can also exchange his or her charger for a new one or keep the existing one. Your child will only receive a new charger if they return the old charger on Friday. CARE OF NEW DEVICES Throughout the Chromebook replacement process with HP, we have been assured that the new Chromebooks are of a much higher quality than the previous models. It is so important that your child takes care of his or her assigned device. As students receive new Chromebooks, we want to remind you of some of our expectations: • Food and beverage should not come in contact with Chromebooks. • Chromebooks should never be thrown, dropped, kicked, or handled in an abusive manner. • Chromebooks should remain free of stickers, drawings, and other types of vandalism. • Chromebooks should stay in their protective cases at all times. • The Chromebook should be in the closed position when transported. Students should make sure that the device is free of foreign objects before closing the Chromebook. • Students will be held responsible for maintaining his or her individual Chromebook and keeping it in working order. CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE As a reminder, school offered insurance is available for $15 and covers your child’s device in the event it is lost, stolen, or accidentally damaged. If accidental damage occurs, and you have school offered insurance, there is no additional cost to have the device repaired on the first occurrence. If the device is accidentally damaged and you have no school offered insurance, you will be responsible for the cost of the damage to the Chromebook. If you already purchased school offered insurance at any point during the 2020-2021 school year, you do not need to purchase it again. School offered insurance does not cover lost or damaged chargers. If your child has lost his or her charger, new chargers are available for purchase ($20.00) in the school office. With the rollout of new devices, now may be a good time to purchase insurance if you have not already done so. Please contact the Deerfield office at 765-595-0144, option 3, if you have interest in doing so. This purchased insurance would cover the device for the remainder of the school year.
