The Deerfield Food Pantry will take place as scheduled today from 3:30 to 5:00 (or until food runs out). Instead of entering the school, you'll simply drive up to the Second Harvest van parked in front of the school. You'll get a free bag of groceries and be on your way! We hope our Deerfield families will take advantage of this opportunity to get some free groceries close to home.

Our PTO Fundraiser delivery date has been rescheduled to Monday, May 11, 2020. Families who sold items for the fundraiser need to pick up items at Deerfield between 2:00 and 5:00 on May 11. You will simply drive up and stay in your car. We will load items into your trunk for you. Please think ahead about how you will deliver the items to those who bought from you while practicing safe social distancing. It is very important that all items sold be picked up on May 11. Thank you for planning ahead, and thank you for supporting our PTO.

Deerfield Families, I'm reaching out this morning to share a few updates with you. I want to explain one important change we are making in this 4th grading period. This is a time in which traditional letter grades don't honor the realities facing our teachers, students, and families. We're staying focused on teaching and learning. We've developed a simple progress report that will hopefully communicate the academic strengths and areas in need of practice for each of our students. Families, we will be sharing out these progress reports weekly. You will be able to find your child's report in Google Classroom beginning this Friday, April 17. The report will be updated each Friday through the end of the school year. You can find more detail and a full update on our school website. https://des.rc.k12.in.us/article/221671?org=deerfield-elementary-school Please take care, and remember you can email your child's teacher if you are in need of help with lessons. Sincerely, Mrs. Kile

Good Morning! We are up and running with our second day of eLearning. It was great to see so many of our students working on their eLearning lessons yesterday. Parents, thank you for all you are doing to help your students complete their lessons. If you have any questions, contact your child's teacher or call our office. If you still need to pick up a paper/pencil packet, those will be available in the lobby until 2:00 again today. If you are unable to get your packet, please call us. We'll work with you to find a solution. Call 765-595-0144 option 3 to reach the Deerfield office.

Updated Grab and Go Lunch Info
The Deerfield Food Pantry will take place as scheduled tomorrow from 3:30-5:00. Instead of entering the school building, the pantry distribution will be a "tailgate" format. A Second Harvest van will be parked along the curb on the northwest corner of the school. Families will simply drive up using the "enter" side of the circle drive, collect a preassembled bag of food, and drive away using the "exit" side of the circle drive. We appreciate Second Harvest's flexibility as we work to find a way to make the food available to our families during this extended school closure. Please keep in mind, this food distribution is only available to families of Deerfield Elementary School students. Thank you for your cooperation.

Musical Press Release
Deerfield Families, Our schools have been continuing to work with local health officials and prepare for the possibility of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in our schools. To date, we are still not aware of any cases identified in our local community. However, it is critical that we take actions to raise awareness and prevent the spread of illness. With this priority in mind, I have decided to cancel tomorrow’s Pastries for Parents event at Deerfield. This is in accordance with the recommendation to avoid large public gatherings that could provide opportunity for illness to spread. While I know we will have disappointed students and families, I firmly believe this is in everyone’s best interest as we consider the safety of everyone in our school and larger community. The PTO will still provide donuts, fruit, and milk for students in our classrooms tomorrow morning. This treat, however, will not be open to families and guests. Thank you for your continuing patience and support as we all work through this together. Sincerely, Mrs. Laura Kile
